FAV Sunday

Several FAV stuff going on this 27th Sunday in Ordinary Times:

1. Respect Life Sunday: Most people probably equate this with anti-abortion Roe v Wade Sunday, and that really royally pisses me off. Please don't get me wrong, I am as anti-abortion as these cafeteria pro-lifers who focus only on fetuses and brain-dead women; what really bothers me is the marginalization of all other forms of life. Thou shalt not kill is a non categorical commandment, and yes, it applies not only to babies and Terri Schiavo, it also applies to criminals on death row, the Iraqis and all other "enemies of the country", and homosexuals. Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do to Me.

2. Red Mass Sunday: No, it doesn't have anything to do with the Redskins, it actually "refers to a Roman Catholic Mass celebrated annually for judges, prosecutors, attorneys, law school professors and students, and government officials. The Mass requests guidance from the Holy Spirit for all who seek justice, and offers the opportunity to reflect on the God-given power and responsibility of all in the legal profession." Today, the Supremes had theirs at St. Matthew's just off Dupont Circle, led by the whitest Catholic SC judge of all, Clarence Thomas. And Her Hotness, Delia Gallagher was in attendance!!! While the mass is noble in its objective (and I am all for judges going to church), I'm still bothered by the disconnect from the Separation of Church and State tenet, one of the key foundations upon which the US Constitution was founded on - the same constitution these Supremes have vowed to uphold and defend.

3. Editorial Sunday: Interesting one from the LA Times, titled "The Dark Side of Faith" - evolutionary scientist Gregory S. Paul's findings "suggest that contrary to popular belief, lack of religiosity does societies no particular harm. This should offer ammunition to those who maintain that religious belief is a purely private matter and that government should remain neutral, not only among religions but also between religion and lack of religion. It should also give a boost to critics of "faith-based" social services and abstinence-only disease and pregnancy prevention programs." What I am not sure of is if the study extends to Faith-based journalism, and if so, would it undermine the integrity of the FAV gig by the seeming pandering, not by the correspondent, but by its creator, CNN? Would the FAV girl call the faithful on this dysfunction and be critical of the hysteria and blind allegiance fostered by absolutism and theocracy, or would she become yet another disseminator of what is an arguably questionable and debilitating societal phenomenon?

4. Armaggedon Sunday: Which comes after Black Saturday when the Imperial Army snatched victory from the gloves of The Republic. Today continues the age old struggle between good and evil, humility and arrogance, art and garbage, light and darkness; it's the final regular season game between the Good Boston Red Sox and the Bad NY Yankees. While Heaven battles Hell for the salvation of humanity, victory also rests on the shoulders of Purgatory - the Cleveland Indians. Indians, lose already, will ya?

5. Patriots Sunday: Another game played by the beacons of sportsmanship and the defender of freedom against those California botoxed surfers.
