Church News

They say that today, Fall Equinox, is one of only 2 days in the whole year when you can balance an egg on its end as the earth is supposedly in perfect symmetry - the sun rises on the east and sets exactly 12 hours later on the west, the north pole is exactly 180 degrees of the south pole; of course that myth is bonkers as you can probably balance an egg anytime in the year as long as you find the right egg. If you want to try anyway, here are the exact times when that "perfect balance" happens.

The whole universe is about "balance", there is always an equilibrium point. Somehow, I think Rita and Katrina are earth's ways of fighting us mortals and trying to bring our planet back into balance - but I'll excogitate on that later.

Today, there are 2 front page news regarding the Catholic Church that could give the appearance of a balancing act, but I'd leave it to the Her Faith-and-Values Hotness, Delia Gallagher, to ponder. Philadelphia's lead local news is about - GASP! - the church abuse scandal, while the NY Times' 2nd lead story is about the Vatican banning gays from entering the priesthood.

In a world of parallelism, the 2nd story seems to be balancing the consequences of the 1st story, but like the myth of the balanced eggs, the myth of pedophiles = gays seems to have been elevated to fact and policy by yet another egg - Eggs Benedict. The Vatican's response would be comical (e.g., Seminarian Bob: We need drapes for the Bette Middler karaoke night... Fr. Tom: Bob, we need to talk...) if it wasn't so tragic and sad in its ignorance and arrogance.

So... F&V Girl... take it away...

Betrand Russell, that liberal Nobel Laureate thinker, was so right: I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.
