Mea Culpa and Delia's... Oh My God...
When you say your Mea Culpas, you actually ask for forgiveness and wait for the consequences of your mea culpa'd actions. While Bush FINALLY took responsibility (probably for the first time in his life and with Karl Rove pulling the strings) for the pathetic Federal response to Katrina, the consequences of his culpability if they exist, are not exactly known. Yet. And as good Christians, we are supposed to forgive, right? That's what we do, that's how we mollify our own guilt and countless personal mea culpas. 7 x 77... remember?

Eerily redolent of last Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 18:21-35), GWB does remind me of the forgiven servant who wouldn't forgive - remember, TX under his governorship executed more people than any other state in the US. GWB made pre-emptive war a US policy, and 2,100 dead soldiers later, we still don't know where we are going and how we could get there, other than knowing that the road ahead is littered with lies and unforgiven debts...
We are such a forgiving society, except when it matters. It is a virtue to forgive, it's actually cathartic and therapeutic. But we will be doing the culpable a disfavor if we do not allow them to suffer the consequences of their actions; as kids, we learned not to do something again not because we said sorry and cried but because we were punished.
All I know is that if my work performance review was a 3 out of 10, I'd be fired. If you asked me, I honestly think GWB should resign now. And please, please, make him take Cheney with him.
While I'm really really really angry about this whole situation and I am really really really sad for my country and the people running it to the ground, I must say that everything has a silver lining.
Well, not really profoundly silvery, but enough to make you exclaim, "Oh my God, what is Delia wearing??!!!" followed by what seemed like a crescendo of nitrogen gas filling your head into oblivion as you gaze into those biceps and ponder the cleavage of CNN's Faith &Values person. In my little corner of the world... that is indeed a silverish lining.Okay, it must be REALLY REALLY HOT in Louisiana and Mississippi right now, so, give her a break, will ya? Besides, she had her designer blankie, I mean, shawl, when she talked to the Papal envoy. Inasmuch as I hate this whole Katrina situation, part of me is giddy as hell because I see a lot of Her Hotness... and I mean, A LOT.
However, I will be selflessly prude here, sacrifice my own edification, and request that Her Hotness consider this rule: if Basilica di San Pietro wouldn't let you in with what you're wearing, it's probably wise NOT to wear the same thing in any of your report packages as well. Your Admiration Society, while immensely enjoying Your Hotness' extreme hotness (and we mean that in the most affectionate way), would really really want to listen to what you are saying, and it's kinda hard when all we could do is stare at the TV.
Postscript: In a most curious move, CNN.com posted Delia's video package "Pope's envoy surveys Katrina's damage" in their site, but is yet to air it.

(Thanks, hon, for the screen caps, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)
