FAV™ Indian Summer

Today, September 5th, is the 10th anniversary of Mother Teresa's death. From the Balkans to Bahrain, from Calcutta to Rome, people gathered to remember. Which is befitting: if a fallible posh like Princess Diana was celebrated and clips of her memorial repeatedly shown on TV, moreso should a saint-to-be. Especially since 10 years ago, we still remember how the media made a juxtaposition of their 2 deaths, no matter how un-juxtaposized.

But there were no clips, no specials, no tributes, no documentaries - at least, none that I know of and I've been really busy watching tennis and baseball to channel surf. And, GASP! - no Delia! (Or maybe they just don't show those things at ESPN?)

Let me just say now: I neither strongly like or dislike Delia. I'm keeping this blog, no matter how inconsistently and unimaginatively, because I promised.

I'm not trying to be mean here. I'm just baffled as to why is/was Delia in India while everyone at CNN-US is dipping on her beat? Are those people as knowledgeable about Theology as Delia? Most probably not. Are they BFF with the Pope? Uhm, no, and they don't speak Italian either. But at least, they are reporting FAV™ stories, which may or may not be relevant.

But then again, what counts for relevance these days?

We want Delia to succeed, she seemed nice enough to Shep... and Shep was desperately, utterly infatuated with her. If only for that, we wish Delia the best. But Delia needs to be more intuitive, aggressive, assertive in staking her beat, since FAV™ is one gig where a wide stance is necessary.

(And we're not referring to bathroom protocol - that one is covered by Bathroom Correspondent Kyra Phillips.) And it won't hurt to get good producers who understand what constitutes relevant FAV™ story angles either.

Incidentally, I am still curious about the following Delia claim by my friend Anonymous:

5. Delia speaks and reads five to six languages and (an) expert on World Religion the source of war today.

Apparently, the person who edited Delia's Wikipedia entry disagrees:

Curiously, the edit came from Rome:

Delia Gallagher
