Thanksgiving in NYC

Image hosted by Photobucket.comWell, it's that time of the year again - the Macy's Parade, football, turkey and stuffing, alcohol (and lots of it), friends and family - Thanksgiving is supposed to be sacrosanct yet Delia's humble blogger has been known to boycott it. Yes, I find Thanksgiving utterly useless and overrated.

On my first Thanksgiving in NYC, a buddy of mine visited and we went to see the Macy's Parade and parked ourselves at 59th and Columbus; trust me when I say it's better to see the whole thing either the night before when they blow the balloons up at Central Park West, or in the comfort of your apartment. For a traditional turkey meal, a lot of places, even in Manhattan, are closed on Thanksgiving, but you'd always find that ethnic restaurants are open - you can have tandoori turkey at your favorite Indian restaurant, or you can have sushi as my buddy and I did.Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I enjoyed my Thanksgivings in NYC - it wasn't so bad to feel utterly miserable in the company of other miserable single New Yorkers and not even realize you're miserable. That's the magic of Manhattan. But - we all grow up sometime and move away, but at least, I will always have my NYC memories.

Oh, I'm still boycotting Thanksgiving; I still think it's overrated and trite. But I hope Her Hotness, Delia Gallagher's first Thanksgiving in NYC - if she's staying in NYC - will be as fun as all of mine.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, DELIA!
