Moronic Design

When not talking about Vatican gaydom, Her Hotness, Delia Gallagher, was going full spead ahead on her Intelligent Design packages: from her Reporter's Notebook on "On the Story" to a "Biblically correct" trip to the Denver Zoo for Paula Zahn Live (except it was Heidi Collins anchoring, not Paula, and Delia wasn't live in the studio).

I have a pressing question: is Delia that tall, or had she just been interviewing really short guys?

But I digress...

Now, let me preface everything by saying that I would watch Delia read the phone book in whatever language (from whatever country) she chooses, and I would still sigh with helpless admiration at the sight and sound of her. Having said that: topics like ID and creationism were exactly the kind of Thanksgiving dinner conversations I have tried to avoid.Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I mean, give me a bleeping break! Why is it such a big bleeping deal that parents want those subjects taught in science classes? Do we really need to scientifically teach our children that everything was really, literally created in 6 days? Do we really have to pay money to listen to the morons who posit that Noah's flood caused the extinction of dinosaurs? (Besides, we all know that Noah's ark was too small to hold one of those gigantic Argentinosauruses, not to mention a pair, as instructed!!!)

And how on Darwin's name could Delia report on such frivolity with a straight face? Delia, did you really attend Oxford and left the Vatican Press Corp (and La Bella Citta altogether) just so you could follow Rusty Carter around the Denver Zoo?Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I don't know about you, Delia, but I think my IQ dropped a few points after watching some of Rusty's tour!

Please don't get me wrong, I believe in God and evolution - but they are not and should not be mutually exclusive. We learn the discipline and wisdom of empirical evidence, null hypotheses, controlled experiments, measurable results - in science classes. We may not all grow up to be scientists, but basic scientific skills do help us in the real world, and ID definitely does not belong in a scientific lab.

Delia, we don't know if you're pandering or just acerbically disguising the inherent humor in this creationist / ID packages. We hope you know that your listeners are a lot smarter than Rusty's target audience.

And yes, we DO know that Adam and Eve did have pet dinosaurs that they used to ride around in the Garden of Eden!

(Delia's reaction to the new JP2 comic book... priceless! I have a copy in Italian, Delia - care to translate?)
