Delia's New Gig

Yes, Her Hotness is back as CNN's new "Faith and Values" Correspondent! (Whatever the hell that means!) AWESOME! (Thanks to Amy Welborn for the email! )

By John M. Higgins -- Broadcasting & Cable, 9/7/2005 2:52:00 PM

In a first for the network, CNN named its first reporter to the religion beat, tapping Delia Gallagher as its first "faith and values" correspondent.

Gallagher has been an analyst for the network on the Vatican but has never served as correspondent. She will provide reports and analysis on topics including faith, religion and values in people's lives.

Based in New York City, Gallagher filed her beat's first reports from a Catholic diocese in Louisiana that is helping schoolchildren displaced after Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to her five years as CNN's Vatican analyst, Gallagher worked as a contributing editor for the print magazine Inside the Vatican. Before moving to Rome, she earned a master’s degree in theology from Oxford University in England and worked as a researcher and editor at Oxford University Press on a CD-ROM project analyzing the Dead Sea scrolls.

This is great news for CNN. Who can forget Reuters News Agency and FOX News wrongly announcing the death of the pope, while Gallagher was live on CNN stating the reports were wrong. Arguably the best live journalist moment of the 2005. Kudos to Delia. I'm returning to watching CNN and I'll tell my co-workers tomorrow to do the same!.

Whoever can pull the transcript of that moment, its Smithsonian quality. I was flipping channels between msnbc, fox, etc. they all misreported, meanwhile CNN stalwart Jim Bitterman announces worldwide that Delia is right and Reuters was wrong. Bitterman said something along the lines that if the pope was dead Delia's cell phone would be ringing or the vatican would have already called her. Obviously says alot about how delia is respected by experienced journalists like Bitterman.

Wow, I just read all of this, CNN Prez Jon Klein just outsmarted Fox! Have Delia interview FEMA chief Mike Brown about what went wrong and forget all of the inquiries and commissions...she'll cut through his spin...
