Analyzing the Analyst

Image hosted by Photobucket.com An article by Sandro Magister titled "From Rome to the World: The Global Offensive of the Catholic Media" mentioned in 2 succeeding paragraphs the 2 non-profit media outlets associated with our dear Delia Gallagher. It is an interesting, although disheartening read (i.e., if you believe in dialogue within the Church and treat with distrust any secretive, cult-like group like Opus Dei or Regnum Christi ).

The article is long, so I won't reprint it here; but here are the sections about our Her Hotness' employers:

But rather than just Italy, these new Catholic media groups have the whole world as their target. "Inside the Vatican" is a monthly magazine in English founded and directed by an American transplanted to Rome, Robert Moynihan, with 15,000 copies sold mostly in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and the Philippines. It offers to its readers a perspective that is sympathetic to the Vatican, in stated opposition to the "partial, superficial, tendentious, and uncritical" perspective attributed to the mainstream media. The pope, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, devotion to Mary, liturgy respectful of tradition, and Catholics of the former communist countries are its central topics. It frequently interviews the heads of the curia, and its photographic work, supervised by Grzegorz Galazka of Poland, is luxurious. (My note: "Inside the Vatican" is not a member of the Catholic Press Association despite its US business address...)

"Zenit" is even more global. It is an online news agency with headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but its central editorial office is in Rome. Begun in 1998 in English, today it publishes continually in real time in six languages, including Italian as of this year, and it is read daily by 240,000 subscribers from five continents, who receive it free via e-mail. Most of the costs are covered by voluntary contributions from the readers, who so far this year have contributed half a million dollars. Editorially, "Zenit" is very loyal to the pope and the Vatican curia, but its style of communication is detached, objective, and professional, much more attentive to good documentation than to advocacy. The director is Jesús Colina, Spanish, a member of "Regnum Christi," which is the lay association of the Legionaries of Christ. He is a trusted friend of the founder of the Legionaries, Mexican Fr. Marcial Maciel.

Delia - please tell us you have not drunk the kool-aid.

---------------

From a VERY GOOD AUTHORITY - Delia did NOT drink the kool-aid. Thank God.

Delia Gallagher is a respected independent journalist worldwide, with hard nose media experience dating back to her first job at KCBS in San Francisco. Delia Gallagher speaks at least five languages and was the only American journalist pool reporter to visit the pope when he was first ill. She is an expert on the Vatican and highly regarded by the vatican press corps. Delia Gallagher has access to popes, presidents, and politicians because she is a mainstream American journalist that gets the story right the first time.
