Cameo by Delia

Ah - the extent to which I would go to get a glimpse of Delia Gallagher...

It's awesome when small idiosyncracies like mine are rewarded: there is our beloved Delia in the Vatican TV Archives - Conferenza Navarro (April 4 & 6 are the same clips) minute markers 40:41 and 45:48. she is the blonde sitting in front of the stage by the aisle.

After enough swooning at Delia speaking in Italian - (notice how Dr. Navarro-Valls pronounced her name "Dé-lia") - my overwhelming question was: why would she sit in front? Okay, that's not a fair question, but I was reminded of kids in my class who made sure they sat in front of the teacher, hung around after class to talk to the teacher, and basically just wanted their nose to be surgically attached to the teacher's derrière.

Me? I was one of the kids at the back row snickering at those kids in front. Sometimes I did sit in front just to make the teacher nervous. I was one of the kids who sat right next to the door. So - how was Delia as a child? Oh, I don't know, but my friend said she seems to be one of the good girls who never got in trouble, who followed all the rules - a good Irish Catholic girl. Of course those good kids ended up being priests, nuns, or doctors, while kids who sat with me in the back became junkies, serial killers, or lawyers.

Her mother somewhere must be very proud. She raised her well.
