Operation Smarmy: The Christian Offensive

Tony Soprano would have been so proud of his namesake Tony Scalia. After attending a red mass at Boston’s Holy Cross Cathedral - which the Shep sometimes attended as a graduate studentTony the Judge made that familiar under-the-chin gesture to a reporter who asked him about his perceived judicial impartiality. “That’s Sicilian,” he said about the gesture, (an insult to all other Sicilians out there) – and not supposed to be pejorative or obscene. I don’t know… even Don Vito Corleone probably wouldn’t do that, not after attending mass and receiving the Holy Eucharist. Heck, even I wouldn’t attempt something like that – not in Church, at least.

True or not, he was supposed to have uttered “vaffanculo” to go with his chin-scratching. That’s Italian for F-you, thank you very much. This is a sitting judge on the US Supreme Court, the highest court of the land, for goodness’ sake! He is supposed to be a paradigm of virtue so he could render impartial judgments from his bench! Even without the Italian expletive – let the picture speak for itself. I don't know about you, but I think Fat Tony made a fool of himself, disrespected the House of God, dishonored the bench, and embarrassed his fellow Catholics.

And now some asshats say that there is a War on Christians going on? It wasn’t enough to have a War on Christmas, War on Easter, now we have a War on Christians? I am a Christian and I don’t see any war, do you? This is getting really old – this war mongering. THERE IS NO WAR ON CHRISTIANS! There is NO persecution, no discrimination, no execution. Contrary to what Tom DeLay said, 85% of America claims Christianity as its religion and therefore cannot declare war on itself. 4 of 9 judges in the Supreme Court are Catholics. You cannot be a bully and claim to be bullied at the same time. Fat Tony cannot cry persecution and say The Boston Herald is liberal because... well, it endorsed GWB in 2004. Before you know it, Delia would be out on the streets of NYC chasing Easter bunnies and pointing to Passover matzo balls and wondering if there really is a War on Christians going on!

But back to Fat Tony: please tell me how we can allow a Supreme Court justice and an Opus Dei Catholic get away with such arrogance?
